What Is Ageing Skin?

Ageing skin has a number of characteristics, skin generally looks a lot thinner than it did in our younger years with more fine lines and wrinkles. Sagging skin can become a real issue due to the loss of collagen and elastin. In later years clients often fear the ‘Turkey Neck.’ Areas that are especially affected are marionette lines, nasolabial lines, crows’ feet wrinkles and tear troughs.

When left untreated this aging skin can create double chins may also become more obvious with age and effect confidence. Clients with aging skin often seek complete skin rejuvenation treatments to tighten their skin, firm their skin and get double chin reduction to reduce loose skin. Comments we often hear are “please can we lift my saggy neck” and “can we do non-surgical skin tightening for the loose skin on my neck”. Pigmented spots, liver spots, seborrheic keratosis, hyperpigmentation also become more common obvious as we age creating a more uneven skin tone.

What causes ageing skin?

From the age of just 25 we begin to lose 1-2% of collagen each year. When ladies reach the menopause a staggering 33% of collagen is lost every 5 years. While we are all aware ageing is something that is going to happen to us all, there are many ways to prevent it from happening so quickly.

One of the main reasons we age quickly is down to sun exposure. Over time the sun's UV rays damage the collagen & elastin in our skin. This causes the elastin fibres to break down and in time our skin starts to sag, stretch and lose it ability to snap back.

Additionally, when our skin is exposed to harmful toxins such as smoking, alcohol, pollution and highly sugary foods it also leads to tissue damage over time. This then slows down our bodies natural ability to repair and maintain healthy skin cells. As we age our skin cell turnover slows down which contributes to signs of ageing such as lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

How to treat ageing:

For healthy skin we recommend the following as a good basic routine to protect the DNA of the cell Nucleus and to keep skin glowing.

Firstly, to prevent further damage to the skin a daily SPF is essential to protect the skin. Secondly, we recommend a form of vitamin A that is suitable to the client’s needs which may be a Retinol or prescription strength vitamin A such as Tretinoin. Thirdly to enhance results and to increase product absorption we always recommend a skin specific exfoliator such as Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid.

We also off a range of clinical treatments to intensively treat the skin and get those results faster. Would you go to the gym and them eat a McDonalds afterwards? This is like having advanced clinical Laser/Needling/IPL treatments and then putting shea butter on your face.

For complete skin rejuvenation in the fastest time possible we combine advanced skincare, clinical treatments with skin specific supplements to treat the skin from within.
