What happens during Laser Resurfacing

The treatment uses an Erbium:Yag Laser to create tiny thermal holes in the skin stimulating a healing process and a deep ‘peel like’ effect. It works on every layer of the skin down to the dermis to stimulate the skin cell turnover, stem excess oil flow in the face, kickstart the collagen and elastin formation, resurface the skin's surface and rejuvenate the skin's appearance.

The laser does feel hot during the treatment and cooling agents are used throughout if required to help keep you comfortable at all times. The thermal reaction subsides after 60 mins post treatment, and the skin relaxes becoming more comfortable to the touch. Clients are advised to go straight home after the treatment and remain cool and relaxed; you will be advised to drink plenty of water for at least 72 hours post treatment to help aid in the healing process, alongside using the correct soothing and balancing products and supplements at home. For 5-7 days post treatment the old dead skin peels off revealing the softest, smoothest skin you have experienced in years.

FRACTIONAL LASER RESURFACING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is laser resurfacing worth it?

Hell yes!! Laser resurfacing is a gold standard advanced treatment. It significantly decreases the appearance of fine lines and open pores in the face. It can also treat loss of skin tone and improve the texture if you have scars, acne scars or sun damage.

How long does it take to recover from laser skin resurfacing?

Post treatment skin recovers in five to seven days after laser resurfacing. During this initial phase your dead skin cells will become dry and peel off. After 7 days your skin will be looking and feeling the softest you’ve experienced in years.

CAUTION: You may become addicted to your soft skin!

Is laser resurfacing permanent?

There are no treatments out there that is a permanent solution as we can’t stop the ageing process. After a course of laser resurfacing we always recommend regular annual top up treatments. Many people do notice immediate results on their skin which continue to improve over the next 12 months.

Which is better chemical peel or laser resurfacing?

Chemical peels do reduce fine lines, open pores and rough skin. Lasers tackle more noticeable skin conditions such as texture and skin tightening, and deeper lines and wrinkles, as well as all the peel benefits. We recommend one Laser Resurfacing treatment once a year to deeply exfoliate and maintain healthy glowing skin.

Is laser resurfacing painful?

Comfort level depends on the settings we are using and the client's tolerance for pain. All warmth and erythema tends to disappear within 60 mins of treatment and skin has a wind burn feel that will remain for 24-48 hours depending on the settings used. Clients compare the sensation felt during laser treatments to a rubber band snapping against their skin. It does feel warm and it the heat can feel uncomfortable. It’s definitely not any sensation that is long lasting or that cannot be soothed with a cool compress, and the results are so worth it, you’ll never spend money on a microdermabrasion again!

What is a better treatment Laser Resurfacing or Microdermabrasion?

Without a shadow of a doubt, Fraction Laser Resurfacing, it works on a much deeper level and has so many more benefits besides exfoliating the top layer of the skin. Microdermabrasion is an outdated, old fashioned dinosaur in the world of aesthetics and cannot compete with the results of a Fractional Laser Resurfacing treatment. Once you have had a Fractional Facial, you will never enquire about a microdermabrasion again and you will never need to.

Laser resurfacing and Sun Exposure, what's the wait time?

As with any resurfacing treatment, Laser based treatment or deep exfoliation treatment, your skin will be sensitive to light exposure. It is extremely important you are careful with your skin for a minimum of 6 weeks after your treatment. During the summer months we advise that you wear SPF and carry an SPF mineral powder with you to reapply every 2-3 hours. We advise that you stay out of direct sunlight for a minimum of 4 weeks, and if going into the sunshine, try to wear a hat that shades your face, spf 50 and sunglasses to protect your skin. Remember, any laser based treatment or exfoliating treatment will cause light sensitivity and risk of burning if the skin is exposed to direct sunlight.
